Why we bought Power Wheels Ford F150? Mainly because we have 2 children, 7 year old and 4 year old, so they could ride in it together. We select this Power Wheels vehicle over the Power Wheels Cadillac Escalade due to the fact it has a truck bed, and we thought the children would get pleasure from putting their toys in there and collecting rocks, etc. on their off-road adventures.
Shipping
As a Prime member, when I order items from Amazon that say “Ships from and sold by Amazon” (as this item did) I expect prompt delivery without any hassle. And, for the past two years I’ve by no means been let down. Sadly, that was not the case with this order. It was supposed to be a 2-day delivery, and it ended up taking 20-days. Amazon gave us a $10.00 credit since it did not ship on time, and I appreciate the gesture, but that did not make-up for the hassle. The carrier that Amazon choose to use was named ABF, and it appears they were the ones that dropped the ball. So, just a heads up, if Amazon is nonetheless making use of ABF to ship this item you might need to get it locally, in case you don’t wish to wait a month.
Assembly
The truck was extremely simple to assemble. A Phillips Screwdriver was the only tool that was required and every little thing fit together with out getting to be forced or modified. Initially Impressions
The truck is stunning, with a totally functioning FM radio that gets very good reception and has a lot of volume (calls for four C batteries). The style is incredibly sturdy and holds up to each our children jumping in and out of it, placing rather heavy items within the truck bed, and standing on the running boards to obtain in/out. The battery is easy to access along with the connector fits snugly but is not tough to remove.
Traction
I’m truly impressed using the traction this truck gets. The truck comes with three gears: Reverse, Low, and High. Reverse and Low use one rear wheel to propel the vehicle, and this truly works quite effectively on flat terrain (grass, cement, asphalt) and on very gentle slopes. But the vehicle really shines in High gear (which Fisher-Price calls Monster Traction), when both rear wheels are utilised for propulsion. The truck is virtually unstoppable in High gear. It goes up incredibly steep hills, over rough terrain, gravel, cement, asphalt, anything we throw at it, and it does so with both children riding in it and with toys within the truck bed.
Battery Life
We charged the battery, per the instructions, for 18-hours before we used it – and that charge lasted longer than any of us thought it would. With both youngsters riding in it in High gear, up and down hills, by way of gravel, grass, sidewalks, and asphalt, the charge lasted for over an hour. We bought an additional battery so our kids could appreciate extended playtime. And I’m glad we did, simply because when the battery finally did run low, we basically swapped it out with the new one and they were off and running for another hour of off-road fun!
Motors
In Reverse and Low gear, the vehicle moves at a good walking pace of about two.5 MPH. In High gear, it moves extremely promptly at five MPH, and you’ll have to jog to keep up. The motors perform without any issues when utilised as recommended (i.e., flat terrain), but can overheat if you are climbing hills (not slopes, hills) without any breaks in-between. When the motors overheat the truck will just stop working. This is various from the battery dying, where the truck will gradually get slower and slower until it cannot move any longer. When the motors overheat, the truck basically stops. No warning, nothing. This isn’t genuinely unexpected, contemplating the strain which is placed on them in said conditions, but just some thing you ought to be prepared for if you are going to take it into hill nation. If they do overheat, it is not a major deal, just let the truck rest 2-3 minutes so the motors can cool down, then hop in and off you go again!
The Poor
-There is no adjustable seat or battery charge indicator as advertised on the Amazon web page. This appears to be a misprint by Amazon, due to the fact the manufacturer’s site (Fisher-Price) doesn’t mention this feature. This was disappointing, but not a deal breaker.
- There is certainly no on/off switch or neutral gear. This causes difficulties when the youngsters get in and out of the driver’s seat and accidentally step on the “gas” pedal. Not a big deal, just a design flaw in my opinion. Having a bit of practice, the kids will learn to be a lot more cautious with their feet around the “gas” pedal.
Afterthoughts
I am extremely pleased with this Power Wheels F150, and would extremely recommend it to everyone trying to find a 2-seater electric vehicle. Fisher-Price nailed it with their “Monster Traction” 2-wheel drive program, and I foresee this truck lasting our kids until they’re ready for their own genuine ATVs. Beyond the enjoyable that this vehicle provides our young children, it is also teaching them the fundamentals of driving. Who could ask for a lot more?
